This metadata record describes the vector data used for the 2016 Connecticut LiDAR project covering approximately 935 square miles, in which its extents cover Block 2.
<purpose>To acquire detailed surface elevation data for use in conservation planning, design, research, floodplain mapping, dam safety assessments, and hydrologic modeling. LAS and bare earth DEM data products are suitable for 1 foot contour generation. USGS LiDAR Base Specification 1.2, QL2. 19.6 cm NVA.</purpose>
<supplinf>Project Projection, Datums and Units. Projection - State Plane Connecticut. Horizontal datum - North American Datum of 1983 (NAD83 (2011)). Vertical datum - North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD88) using the latest geoid (Geoid12b) for converting ellipsoidal heights to orthometric heights. Units - US feet</supplinf>

<srccontr>The National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) is the surface water component of The National Map. The NHD is a digital vector dataset used by geographic information systems (GIS). It contains features such as lakes, ponds, streams, rivers, canals, dams and stream gages. These data are designed to be used in general mapping and in the analysis of surface-water systems. (ref. http://nhd.usgs.gov/) As such, the NHD acts as a guide and reference when compiling up to date hydrologic features from aerial lidar data.</srccontr>

<procdesc>The hydro features are used to classify the LiDAR and hydro-flatten the bare earth DEMs. The non-USGS breaklines were collected by Sanborn to satisfy the contour processing, and used in the DEM processing accordingly. This was an item discussed during the project design and was deemed acceptable by all parties CRCOG, Sanborn, and Dewberry as they were specific to meeting the CRCOG requirements for the project. Because these were agreed upon for the project these were not seen as issues or potential issues as they relate to the final deliverables. Minimum USGS QL2 requirements for hydro-flattening have been met</procdesc>
