Abstract:
This metadata record describes the raw lidar data for Lift (flight mission) number 26 collected for the Kansas 2012 LiDAR project covering Ellis, Kingman, Ness, Osborne, Pawnee, Pratt, Reno, Rush, Russell, Smith and Stafford counties. Project partners included U.S. Geological Survey, Natural Resource Conservation Service, Kansas Department of Agriculture, Kansas Water Office, US Fish and Wildlife Service, Harvey County and Kansas GIS Policy Board.
Purpose:
To acquire detailed surface elevation data for use in conservation planning, design, research, floodplain mapping, dam safety assessments, and hydrologic modeling. LAS and bare earth DEM data products are suitable for 2 foot contour generation.

Attribute accuracy is tested in the LiDAR processing stage. After classification of the LiDAR data, the 'bald earth' point class is compared to ground control collected within the project area.

LiDAR data is collected for the project area. Post processing of the simultaneously acquired GPS/INS is performed and applied to the laser returns to output a point cloud in the specified project coordinate system and datums. The point cloud data is then subjected to automated classification routines to assign all points in the point cloud to ground, water, overlap and unclassified point classes. Anomalous laser returns that occur infrequently are removed entirely from the data set. The ground class points are then compared to surveyed ground control to develop an accuracy measure of the laser terrain data.

Vertical positional accuracy for LiDAR is dependent upon the quality of the GPS/INS solution, sensor calibration and ground conditions at the time of data capture. The vertical accuracy for this project was tested with a resultant RMSE within the required FVA of 24.5 centimeter.

Under the Kansas Public Records Law, DASC will attempt only to recover the costs related to the processing and distribution of core database requests. The following is a description of our Primary and Secondary Conversion Services, as well as costs associated with the distribution of digital data: Conversion Services - DASC will provide conversion services to all Federal/State/municipal tax support agencies/entities for the cost of media and shipping and handling. Conversion services shall include the exportation of the Core Database in their native projection and tiling scheme into DASC supported spatial data exchange formats and technical support for the loading and importation of the data. Conversion services are provided to other than tax supported organizations on a fee-for-service basis. Conversion Services - DASC will provide conversion services to all organizations on a fee for service basis. Services shall include the alteration of a Core Database's native projection, tiling scheme, or topological structure. Secondary services also include custom map production.
