U.S. Geological Survey 200602 Mt. Rainier LIDAR Boundary Project vector digital data http://lidar.cr.usgs.gov http://seamless.usgs.gov This airborne laser swath mapping (ALSM) data was acquired by TerraPoint, LLC under contract to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration in collaboration with the United States Geological Survey. The data were acquired by means of LIght Detection And Ranging (LIDAR) system. The data were acquired with a nominal density of 1 laser pulses per square meter achieved with 58% overlap of adjacent data swaths (all areas were mapped at least twice and the data combined to produce final products). The data set consists of the LIDAR point cloud providing the location and elevation of each laser return along with associated acquisition and classification parameters. Elevations are in international feet referenced to North American vertical Datum 1988 (NAVD-88) stored as signed floating point values with undefined points set to -9999. Data were acquired at times when deciduous leaf cover was absent and when snow cover was absent or minimal. The majority of Rainier data were acquired in November and December of 2002 These data were developed in order to study the geomorphic expression of natural hazards in support of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Solid Earth and Natural Hazards (SENH) Program, the United States Geological Survey (USGS), and the Geology component of the Earthscope Plate Boundary Observatory. It should be noted, however, that these data are intended for scientific purposes and are not a replacement for professional surveying and mapping services required for architectural or engineering projects. The data obtained through The Seamless Server is considered to be the "best available" data from USGS. Zoom tools are available that can be used to investigate areas of interest on the map interface. The download tool allows the customer to capture layers from the map, utilizing the Seamless Data Distribution System process for downloading. A request summary page is then generated with the download layers listed. By clicking the "download" button on the summary page, a zipped file will be generated that can be saved on the customer's computer. The file can then be unzipped and imported into various user software applications.
